qualmie brown will be sentenced on bank charges. >> also campaign violation charges which he will be sentenced for this afternoon. melanie is live outside the u.s. district court now with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we all know brown was a rising political star. in 2004 he became the first person living east to win a city council seat. he rose in power taking the council chairman step in 2010 at the age of 40. federal prosecutors say after today, he will have no political office and be unemployed. he pleaded guilty in june. false information on bank loan applications. one of the loans was for 39 foot boat. also forged the signature of a friend to overstate his income by tens of thousands of dollars. the other charges go back to an audit. 2008 re-election campaign kwauled to report more than $400,000 in expenditures and $239,000 wound up in the hands of a consulting company. on those federal charges brown's original plea called for 6 month sentence. prosecutors believe a 6 day jail sentence plus three years of supervised probation would be appropriate

of the initiative was raising taxes for more money for schools. >> california is the biggest example of this. brown said we need an initiative measure. they said let's make it real progressive, and make sure that it is for schools, and so they changed the referendum months before -- you know literally a minute before it needed to be on the ballot, and governor brown was fantastic, and what hand was we won this referendum for revenues that are going to be directed to colleges and schools in the wake of a place that has had cut after cut after cut, and also beat out the referendum that said silence workers. so both of these things won in california, and the other thing that won in california was a win against obstructionism by having enough democrats in -- in the legislature to stop the kind of filibustering that was going on there. and then you saw it also in florida, beating back the -- you know, back door let's kill public schools with vouchers. you sanit idaho, beating back this overreach of attesting fixation, and you saw it frankly, in indiana, where one of the poster child

under then-governor brown who was known partially for this in the doons bury as governor moon beam. but he got it passed, so every new building in california had to meet energy efficiency standards. it's made california very efficient. these are the kinds of things, and as i said, portman and shaheen have been working on a compromise on this. these are the kinds of things we can do to make ourselves energy independent. my view, look, katrina -- sorry, sandy gave some impetus to dealing with climate change. and i said in new york we're going to pay for climate change one way or the ore. we can pay for it after each natural disaster. we in new york have had 50 -- sorry, we have had three or four hundred-year disasters -- sorry, i'm phrasing it wrong. we have had in the last three or four year, we have had once in 100-year disasters. with irene, with sandy. and so, you know, i think it will give some impetus to deal with climate change, but even if we can't reach compromise on that, there's lots of things in energy that we can reach compromise on, and that would be on the agenda. and
